Overview

For lesbians, online dating is better than it might've been a couple of decades ago, but other gay women and I have routinely felt shorted by these sites.

They'll market themselves to heterosexual couples, and we find ourselves settling for crumbs. It's enough to make you want to stop using the internet for dating entirely.

However, PinkCupid has given me hope. This is a site for women who like women.

There are some great things about this website and some areas that need improvement.

PinkCupid has plenty of women, as they make up 90 percent of the users. That might seem a bit low for a site geared towards gay women.

We figured this would help keep you from being caught off-guard by the number of male users, many of whom identify gay themselves.

Globally, PinkCupid asserts they have north of 1.5 million users, a third of which are from the United States.

About 28,000 users join the site each month. The site skewers young, with many users being women in their late 20s and early 30s.

PinkCupid users known about the tactics needed to find a match, such as including photos. 

Members tend to be very loyal to the site as well, with over a quarter-million users logging in each month.

You'll see how much PinkCupid users are appreciated when you look at all the incentives users receive.

The 5-minute maximum it takes for signing up to PinkCupid isn't too long, but it might seem a bit long if you're used to sites that take two minutes at most.

It's free to send messages, but reading them requires you to have a paid account.

Speedier conversation can be accomplished through the instant messaging feature.

If you're not yet comfortable with individual talks, there's a very nice chatroom. ​

You can also mark users as favorites, with or without a paid account. A good strategy for PinkCupid applies to other parts of dating: take things slow.

You can get as far as answering messages from paid users as a free user on PinkCupid.

While posting photos and favoriting is nice, you need to upgrade to really reap the fruits of PinkCupid. The two premium accounts are Gold and Platinum.

A Gold membership costs less, but it's still pretty accommodating. You can message users of all levels and get rid of ads. Your search options are also a lot wider.

Platinum gives you all the perks of having Gold, plus more space on your profile and higher rankings.

While dating isn't a competition, taking advantage of any advantages brought your way can help a lot. A premium account can make you feel like a premium user.
